CBD vs.
CBG
Explained

Two hemp cannabinoids. One recovery gel.

CBD gets the headlines, but CBG is the cannabinoid it starts from. Here's how they compare, what the science does and doesn't show, and why Max Relief uses both.

The short answer

CBD (cannabidiol) and CBG (cannabigerol) are both non-intoxicating cannabinoids from hemp. CBG is the "parent" compound the plant converts into CBD and THC, so mature hemp contains much less of it and it costs more to extract. CBD is far more studied; CBG research is earlier and mostly lab-based. Many topicals use CBD alone. Zentric Max Relief combines both: 2,720mg CBD and 731mg CBG per 3.4oz, per our latest COA.

Inside the Formula

More Than
Two Cannabinoids

Broad-spectrum extract keeps several minor hemp cannabinoids. Our latest COA found these in each 3.4oz jar, with THC not detected.

2,720mg
CBD

Cannabidiol, the primary cannabinoid in the formula.

731mg
CBG

Cannabigerol, the precursor cannabinoid.

284mg
CBT

Cannabicitran, a lesser-known minor cannabinoid.

99.6mg
CBC

Cannabichromene, another non-intoxicating cannabinoid.

51mg
CBN

Cannabinol, formed as cannabinoids age.

42.1mg
CBDV

Cannabidivarin, a CBD relative.

Total: 3,930mg cannabinoids per 3.4oz. Some researchers think cannabinoids may work better together (the "entourage effect"), but evidence for this is still limited.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

Is CBG stronger than CBD?

Not in a simple sense. They're different molecules, and there are no head-to-head human studies comparing them in topicals. CBG is rarer and more expensive, not necessarily stronger.

Does CBG get you high?

No. Like CBD, CBG is non-intoxicating.

Can tested athletes use CBG?

WADA removed CBD from its prohibited list in 2018, but other cannabinoids, including CBG, remain prohibited in competition. Because Max Relief contains CBG, athletes under WADA or similar testing should check with their governing body before using it.

Is CBG legal?

Hemp-derived cannabinoids, including CBG, are federally legal when the product meets federal THC limits, but hemp rules are changing and some states set their own. Check your state's rules.

Why does Max Relief use both CBD and CBG?

We formulated Max Relief with both so you get a broad-spectrum cannabinoid profile in one gel: 2,720mg CBD, 731mg CBG, and smaller amounts of CBT, CBC, CBN, and CBDV, per our latest COA.
